Kurukshetra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reaffirmed that while India stands for peace, the nation will not tolerate any compromise on its borders or security.

Addressing a state-level event marking the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, the Prime Minister also hailed the recently launched Operation Sindoor, describing the strikes as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.

“We want peace, but we do not compromise on the security of our borders,” he said, adding that “the whole world has witnessed that the new India neither fears, nor stops, nor bows before terrorism.” Modi said today’s India is advancing with “full strength, courage, and clarity.”

Reflecting on a recent development, he said the arrival of the three original forms of the Guru Granth Sahib from Afghanistan was “a moment of pride for every Indian.” He added that his government has worked consistently to strengthen cultural and spiritual ties with Sikh heritage.

Modi recalled that during his journey from Anandpur Sahib, Guru Tegh Bahadur connected numerous villages with the Sangat, spreading devotion and transforming social behaviour. He noted that people in these villages abandoned all forms of intoxicant cultivation and dedicated their future to the Guru’s teachings.

Calling for a collective battle against addiction, the Prime Minister said that by following the path shown by Guru Maharaj, society, families and youth can eradicate the problem from its roots.

He stressed that the teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur should guide peace in conduct, balance in policy and trust within society — the essence of the day’s commemoration. Modi added that the nationwide observance of the Guru’s martyrdom reflects how deeply the Gurus’ teachings remain embedded in society’s consciousness.

He concluded by urging that the celebrations serve as a meaningful inspiration for young Indians to take the country forward, extending his greetings to all.
