BARMER: Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to the upliftment of every section of society, Parliamentary Affairs and Law Minister Jogaram Patel held a comprehensive review meeting and public hearing (Jansunwai) at the Barmer Circuit House on Saturday.

During the high-level meeting, the minister sought detailed updates from District Collector Chinmayee Gopal regarding the progress of ongoing development works, the execution of flagship schemes, and the status of recent budget announcements in the district.

Given the delayed monsoon in the region, Minister Patel conducted an extensive review of the district’s drinking water arrangements and the availability of fodder and water for livestock. He assured citizens that the “double-engine” government is actively pursuing the goal of Antyodaya (uplifting the last person in society) and guaranteed that the delayed rains would not be allowed to disrupt drinking water supplies or cause fodder shortages.

“Negligence Weakens the Concept of Good Governance”

While addressing the public hearing, the minister listened directly to citizen grievances and issued strict on-the-spot directives to concerned departmental officers to ensure rapid resolutions.

Patel issued a stern reminder to the administration, stating that negligence or apathy in resolving public complaints directly undermines the concept of good governance. He instructed officials to work with absolute transparency, sensitivity, and a strong sense of accountability.

“Officers should not merely act as order-followers but should actively participate in governance in line with the government’s policies and intentions,” Patel stated. He urged officials to maintain continuous dialogue with public representatives and citizens to facilitate swift and rational solutions to local issues.

Basic Amenities are a Fundamental Right

Emphasizing that the ultimate goal of the administration is to deliver tangible relief to the most marginalized, Patel noted that democratic systems like public hearings empower citizens. He reiterated that basic services—including health, education, electricity, drinking water, roads, pensions, social security, and food supply—are the fundamental rights of every citizen and must be delivered without interruption.

The review meeting and public hearing were also attended by Barmer MLA Dr. Priyanka Chowdhary, Chohtan MLA Aduram Meghwal, and various other local public representatives and senior administrative officials.
