New Delhi: External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar on Tuesday held extensive discussions with a visiting parliamentary delegation from Cyprus, led by Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives.
Jaishankar said the talks covered a broad spectrum of bilateral cooperation grounded in shared democratic values, respect for territorial integrity and a common stance against terrorism and radicalisation. He expressed confidence that Cyprus’ upcoming Presidency of the European Union would further strengthen India–EU relations.
“Delighted to interact with the Parliamentary delegation from Cyprus led by President Cyprus Parliament Annita Demetriou. Had wide-ranging discussions on our bilateral cooperation… Confident that Cyprus’ upcoming EU Presidency will help further strengthen India–EU ties,” Jaishankar posted on X.
Earlier in the day, the Cyprus delegation met Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan at Parliament House, where both sides reaffirmed the importance of sustained parliamentary exchanges.
The Vice President’s Office said on X that the meeting “highlighted the long-standing bilateral relationship between India and Cyprus and the importance of continued parliamentary exchanges to further deepen ties.”
The engagement follows the October 30 meeting between Jaishankar and his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos, during which the two ministers reviewed progress on the India–Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025–2029. The roadmap outlines short, medium and long-term goals across key sectors, including defence, trade, business, innovation and technology.
In a post after that meeting, Jaishankar said discussions also covered the global geopolitical landscape, regional developments and cooperation in multilateral platforms.
The Joint Action Plan builds on the commitments made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s June 2025 visit to Cyprus—the first by an Indian Prime Minister in more than two decades. During the visit, several agreements were signed, and Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides conferred the country’s highest honour, the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, on PM Modi.
President Christodoulides also accompanied PM Modi on a tour along the ceasefire line in Nicosia, highlighting the continued presence of the region’s historical divisions.
