New Delhi: The Indian National Congress on Saturday approved the formation of a Political Affairs Committee (PAC) for its Himachal Pradesh unit, bringing together senior leaders, ministers and organisational figures to strengthen coordination and decision-making in the state.

The decision was conveyed through an official communication issued by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, stating that the proposal had been cleared by the Congress president with immediate effect.

The newly constituted 26-member committee includes Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, along with state Congress president Pratibha Singh and senior leader Mukesh Agnihotri.

Other members of the panel include ministers and legislators such as Anirudh Singh, Vikramaditya Singh and Rohit Thakur. The committee also features senior leaders like Anand Sharma and Asha Kumari.

In addition, leaders including Kuldeep Singh Rathore, Kaul Singh Thakur and Chander Kumar Chaudhary have been named in the committee. Former minister R.S. Bali and Nand Lal are also part of the panel.

The list further includes Harshwardhan Chauhan, Jagat Singh Negi, Rajesh Dharmani, Yadvinder Goma and Ram Lal Thakur, reflecting representation from different sections of the party.

Other members include Dhani Ram Shandil, Kuldeep Kumar, Surender Sharma and Kehar Singh Khachi.

The Political Affairs Committee is considered the highest decision-making body of the party at the state level on political and organisational matters. It is responsible for advising on strategy, ensuring coordination between the government and the party organisation, and addressing key political issues.

Apart from the 26 members, the AICC in-charge for Himachal Pradesh and AICC secretaries associated with the state will serve as ex-officio members of the committee.

The formation of the PAC comes at a time when the Congress is focusing on strengthening internal coordination in Himachal Pradesh, where it currently holds power. The committee is expected to facilitate better alignment between governance priorities and organisational functioning.

With members drawn from different regions and factions within the state unit, the PAC is likely to serve as a platform for consultation and coordination on important political decisions.
