Kaushambi: A 15-year-old schoolgirl lost her life after being run over by a dumper truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district amid dense fog, police said. The incident occurred near the Bairagipur crossing while the student was walking to her school.

The deceased has been identified as Sarita Devi, a Class 10 student. According to preliminary information provided by the police, Sarita was heading to school when the accident took place. Poor visibility caused by heavy fog in the area is believed to have contributed to the mishap.

Police officials said the dumper was moving at a high speed when it hit the student. Due to the thick fog, the driver reportedly failed to notice her on the road in time. Sarita sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

After the accident, the driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. Local residents alerted the police, who reached the spot shortly after receiving information about the incident. The dumper involved in the accident has since been seized by the authorities.

The girl’s body was sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, officials said. Further legal proceedings are being carried out in accordance with procedure.

Police said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the driver who fled after the accident. A case has been registered, and investigators are examining all available evidence, including witness statements and the condition of the vehicle.

The incident triggered grief and shock in the local community, with residents expressing concern over road safety during winter fog conditions. Dense fog has been reported across several parts of Uttar Pradesh in recent days, significantly affecting visibility during early morning hours.

Officials said reduced visibility due to fog often increases the risk of road accidents, particularly involving pedestrians. Police have repeatedly urged drivers to exercise caution, slow down, and use fog lights while driving during winter mornings.

The accident near Bairagipur crossing adds to a series of fog-related road mishaps reported from different parts of the state. Authorities have advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel during hours of poor visibility and to follow traffic safety guidelines strictly.

Police said further action in the case will depend on the outcome of the post-mortem report and the ongoing investigation. They added that strict legal action will be taken once the driver is identified and arrested.
