New Delhi: Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh attended a reception hosted by the Luxembourg Embassy in New Delhi to celebrate Grand Duke Guillaume’s accession to the throne.
Representing the Government of India as the chief guest, Singh conveyed greetings to the Grand Duke, the Luxembourg government and its citizens. He described the relationship between India and Luxembourg as “robust and vibrant.”
Sharing moments from the event on X, Singh wrote: “On behalf of the Government and the people of India, I extend our warmest greetings and sincere felicitations to His Royal Highness, the government and the people of Luxembourg. Represented the Government of India as the Chief Guest at the reception in honour of the accession of HRH Grand Duke Guillaume to the throne.”
Grand Duke Guillaume, the eldest son of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, became Hereditary Grand Duke in 2000. He officially took the oath of office on October 3 this year following his father’s abdication.
Earlier in March, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue. Their discussions included UN reforms, the situation in Ukraine and the India–EU partnership.
India and Luxembourg have maintained strong ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1948. Luxembourg opened its Embassy in New Delhi in 2002, and maintains Honorary Consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the partnership is marked by close cooperation both bilaterally and at multilateral forums.
