Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday said that France and the United Kingdom will establish a workshop aimed at coordinating security guarantees for Ukraine, with the United States participating in the effort.
Macron shared the update following a virtual meeting of around 30 nations referred to as the “Coalition of the Willing,” attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
He said the next phase will involve defining the commitments of countries prepared to extend guarantees once a ceasefire is in place.
Macron also noted that France and other European Union members are developing a financial support mechanism for Ukraine.
Earlier in the day, during comments to RTL, the French president said Paris could consider deploying troops to Ukraine after a ceasefire — as part of “reassurance forces” alongside units from the UK and Turkey. However, he underscored that Ukraine’s own armed forces remain the primary element of its security.
