Hanoi: The death toll from flooding and landslides in central Vietnam has climbed to 90, according to local daily Thanh Nien, which cited figures from the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority.
Authorities reported that 12 people remain missing as search and rescue operations continue across the affected provinces.
The recent spell of heavy rainfall has caused extensive damage throughout the region. Officials said that 1,154 houses have been destroyed or severely affected, while more than 80,800 hectares of rice fields and other crops have been inundated, dealing a major blow to local livelihoods.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged provincial authorities to scale up emergency response efforts to manage the severe flooding and other related natural disasters.
According to the Vietnam News Agency, the government has allocated 700 billion Vietnamese dong — approximately 26.6 million U.S. dollars — in emergency assistance to some of the hardest-hit areas to support recovery and relief operations.
