New Delhi: Wipro has officially concluded the purchase of HARMAN’s Digital Transformation Solutions (DTS) business, sealing a $375 million deal following all required regulatory clearances. The acquisition, first announced on 21 August 2025, marks one of the company’s most significant expansions in recent years within the engineering and digital services sector.

With the transaction now completed, more than 5,600 DTS employees across the Americas, Europe and Asia will transition to Wipro. The integration is expected to strengthen Wipro’s global engineering business line, a strategic focus area as the company invests heavily in cutting-edge technologies and innovation-led service offerings.

Executives from Wipro said the addition of DTS will significantly deepen the organisation’s expertise in several specialised domains. The business brings advanced capabilities in product engineering, embedded software development, embodied AI, device engineering and customer experience platforms — areas that have become increasingly essential in the transformation journeys of global enterprises.

Wipro highlighted that businesses across industries are pushing to modernise their product lines, integrate sensors and intelligent interfaces, and deliver connected consumer and industrial experiences. The company expects DTS to accelerate these efforts and broaden its portfolio in emerging technology-driven engineering services.

The DTS team’s extensive presence across multiple geographies is also expected to enhance Wipro’s ability to deliver at scale for clients worldwide. With operations already entrenched in key technology markets, the acquired business offers both established customer relationships and deep domain insights in critical verticals.

Industry analysts have noted that the acquisition aligns well with Wipro’s ongoing pivot toward higher-margin and innovation-led segments of the IT services market. Engineering-focused and AI-driven transformation programmes have become central priorities for many large institutions, opening new avenues for service providers capable of building smart, software-defined hardware and connected ecosystems.

By absorbing DTS and its technology assets, Wipro gains a stronger footing in these rapidly expanding fields. Company leaders believe the move will create opportunities for cross-collaboration across existing business units and unlock value for customers seeking more advanced and integrated digital product solutions.

The transaction also underscores the growing importance of embodied artificial intelligence — a field concerned with integrating AI capabilities into physical devices and products. As organisations explore automated equipment, robotics, advanced wearables and next-generation industrial systems, demand for specialised engineering skill sets continues to rise.

For HARMAN, a Samsung company, the completion of the sale represents a shift in focus toward its core divisions in audio, connected technologies and automotive solutions. The DTS unit, while successful, was considered more aligned with broader digital engineering services than with HARMAN’s primary strategic direction.

Wipro is now expected to work closely with teams joining from HARMAN to drive a seamless transition for employees and customers. Company officials indicated that the integration phase will be structured to maintain continuity across ongoing projects while also adjusting organisational structures to maximise the strengths of the combined entity.

The deal comes at a time when global IT firms are increasingly investing in engineering and platform-based revenue to differentiate themselves in a market characterised by rapid technological shifts, automation and growing client expectations for sophisticated digital systems. With this acquisition completed, Wipro has taken a major step forward in executing its long-term expansion strategy.

As the company moves into the next stage of growth, leadership has expressed confidence that the enhanced engineering organisation will position Wipro strongly in high-demand sectors and future technology domains, establishing new competitive advantages in the global marketplace.
