Chandigarh: Punjab shooter Mahit Sandhu has brought immense pride to the state after setting a new world record and clinching a gold medal at the Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, Japan. Hailing from Dhippanwali village in Fazilka district, Mahit delivered a standout performance in the 50m Rifle Three Position event, earning acclaim at the international level.
Her family said they always had faith in her dedication and expressed joy over her global achievement. Celebrations erupted across her village as residents gathered to honour her victory.
This gold medal marks Mahit’s fourth medal at the Deaflympics, adding to the significance of her triumph. She secured the top podium spot with a final score of 456 points, finishing ahead of competitors from South Korea and Hungary.
Earlier in the qualification round, Mahit made history by breaking both the world and Deaflympics records with a score of 585 points, surpassing her previous record of 576 set at the last World Championships.
Her remarkable success has already inspired aspiring athletes across Punjab, and her family believes she will continue to shine on the international stage and bring further honour to the country.
