Ajmer: The City Congress Committee in Ajmer commemorated the 135th death anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule on Thursday, honouring the legacy of the renowned social reformer whose work laid the foundation for women’s education and the upliftment of marginalized communities in India. The tribute ceremony was held at Jyotiba Phule Circle, where party leaders and workers gathered to pay their respects.
Participants garlanded Phule’s statue and observed a solemn moment dedicated to his lifelong efforts against caste discrimination and social injustice. Leaders in attendance said Phule’s contributions continue to inspire movements for equality, dignity, and access to education, especially among vulnerable groups.
City Congress President Dr. Rajkumar Jaipal led the event along with senior leaders including Sunil Lara, Mahendra Chaudhary, Fakre Moin, Shailendra Agarwal, Kushal Komal, Wasim Khan, Lakshmi Dholkhadia, and Bharat Dholkhadia. They emphasized that Phule’s vision for a more inclusive society is still deeply relevant.
Speakers recounted key milestones from Phule’s work — including the establishment of India’s first school for girls in Pune with his wife Savitribai Phule and his relentless campaign against social inequalities. They recalled how he championed education as a tool of empowerment and fought for the rights of women, Dalits, and backward communities long before social reforms gained national attention.
Committee members also noted that Phule’s ideals remain essential in contemporary society, where challenges such as discrimination, unequal opportunity, and access to education still persist. They urged party workers to follow his example by supporting social justice initiatives and ensuring that welfare programmes reach those most in need.
Several attendees expressed that public remembrance of transformative figures like Phule strengthens awareness of India’s reformist history and helps younger generations appreciate the struggles that shaped democratic and social values.
The event concluded with a call for continued advocacy in furthering the goals that Phule spent his life fighting for — equal rights, community empowerment, and universal education. Congress leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting these values within civic and political platforms, ensuring that Phule’s legacy continues to influence progress in society.
