Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Blasters finally opened their account in the Indian Pickleball League with a high-voltage 4–2 Grand Rally triumph over the Mumbai Smashers, ending a frustrating run of defeats in front of their home supporters.
Both sides entered the contest without a win, adding pressure and intensity to the showdown. The energy on court reflected the urgency from both teams, with every point fiercely contested.
The match featured Asia’s top two pickleball stars — Vietnam’s Quang Duong and Bengaluru’s fan-favourite Phuc Huynh — who were at the heart of the action through the evening. Their rivalry delivered an exciting blend of power, finesse and strategic brilliance.
Duong struck first, showcasing his World No. 3 credentials as he dominated the opening singles encounter. His sharp placements and quick footwork earned him a confident 15–10 victory, giving Mumbai early control in the match.
But the momentum shifted when Huynh returned to the court in the doubles category. Teaming up with Arjun Singh, he delivered a spirited performance that not only neutralized Duong, but also put the Blasters ahead. The Bengaluru pair defeated Duong and Ammol Ramchandani 15–11 — a turning point that ignited celebrations in the stands.
With the scores tight and the overall contest delicately poised, the Blasters continued to ride the confidence wave. Their remaining match-ups saw consistent aggression at the net, stronger serves and clever shot selections that ultimately carried them to a decisive 4–2 win in the Grand Rally format.
It was a morale-boosting result for Bengaluru, who had been under scrutiny after a slow start to the season. The victory not only revives their campaign but also signals that their star lineup is beginning to click at the right moment.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Smashers remain in search of their first win. Despite Duong’s brilliance, the team struggled to convert key moments in doubles — an area they will look to improve ahead of upcoming fixtures.
