BALOTRA: A newly constructed Block Chief Medical and Health Officer (BCMO) office building was formally inaugurated at the Gira headquarters under the Baytu assembly constituency in Balotra district on Saturday. Joraram Kumawat, Cabinet Minister for Animal Husbandry, Gopalan, Dairy, and Devasthan, and District In-charge Minister, led the ceremony by cutting the ribbon and unveiling the inaugural plaque.
The establishment of this permanent administrative hub is set to significantly strengthen public healthcare delivery across the region.
Enhanced Infrastructure for Healthcare Monitoring
The Gira BCMO office was initially sanctioned in 2023. To ensure smooth administrative functioning, it had been operating temporarily out of the local Community Health Centre (CHC). Constructed at an estimated cost of ₹1.10 crore, the new dedicated building provides a highly efficient workspace for block-level medical officers and administrative personnel.
Minister Kumawat highlighted that the permanent office will enable highly effective monitoring of primary and community health centers across the block. This operational efficiency ensures that government healthcare schemes are delivered directly and swiftly to the public.
The Gira BCMO office currently holds administrative jurisdiction over:
- 2 Community Health Centres (CHCs)
- 8 Primary Health Centres (PHCs)
- 43 Sub-Centres

During his visit, In-charge Minister Kumawat also inaugurated newly constructed buildings for health sub-centers at Simaniyon ki Dhani and Jagram ki Dhani, which were originally approved in 2023.
According to Gira BCMO Dr. Mahendra Kumar, each sub-center building was developed at a cost of ₹55 lakh. For the past three years, both centers had been operating out of local Anganwadi hubs due to the lack of dedicated infrastructure.
Commitment to Rural Healthcare Expansion
Addressing the gathering post-inauguration, Kumawat reiterated the state government’s core objective to provide accessible, modern, and high-quality medical facilities to the last person in society. He stated that the new Gira BCMO building will revitalize the medical infrastructure across the entire Baytu and Gira belts.
The minister emphasized the government’s strict focus on developing medical, educational, and basic infrastructure. The expansion ensures that rural residents no longer need to travel long distances to district headquarters for administrative tasks or medical treatments, making comprehensive healthcare accessible right at the local level.
