Chennai: Gujarat Titans elected to bowl after winning the toss against Chennai Super Kings in Match 37 of the IPL 2026 season at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

With the tournament reaching its halfway stage, both teams entered the contest with identical records, having secured three wins and suffered four losses each from seven matches. The fixture holds importance for both sides as they aim to improve their standings and build momentum.

Chennai Super Kings made a change to their lineup, bringing in Urvil Patel. The team returned to their home ground, where they have had a relatively strong record, winning two out of their three matches so far.

CSK came into the match after a convincing victory over Mumbai Indians, where Sanju Samson scored an unbeaten century, while Akeal Hosein delivered an impressive bowling performance with four wickets. The team will look to carry forward that form in front of their home crowd.

On the other hand, Gujarat Titans are looking to recover after consecutive defeats against Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Despite a strong individual performance from Sai Sudharsan, including a century in a recent match, the team has struggled with consistency, particularly in the middle order.

Speaking at the toss, GT captain Shubman Gill said the decision to bowl first was based on pitch conditions. He noted that assessing the surface would be crucial and emphasised the importance of executing plans effectively, especially during the middle overs.

Gill also acknowledged areas where the team needs improvement, particularly in controlling the flow of runs during key phases of the innings. He confirmed one change to the lineup, with Arshad Khan returning to the side.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said the pitch appeared slightly dry and expected it to remain consistent throughout the match. He indicated that his team was comfortable batting first and would aim to set a competitive total.

Gaikwad highlighted that the team’s confidence has improved following their recent win but stressed the need to maintain focus and adapt to conditions. He also mentioned that while he has been getting starts, converting them into bigger scores remains an area of focus.

The match is part of a double-header schedule, adding further significance as teams look to gain an advantage in the points table during the middle phase of the tournament.
