Jodhpur: The 75th Navy Day was celebrated at the South Western Command headquarters on Thursday, 4 December, bringing together serving officers, decorated veterans and senior defence leadership to honour the Indian Navy’s legacy of courage and operational excellence.
Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Sapta Shakti Command, presided over the event. Admiral Madhvendra Singh, former Chief of the Naval Staff, along with distinguished naval veterans and officers of the command, joined the commemorations.
Navy Day is observed every year on December 4 to mark the bold and successful missile attacks launched by the Indian Navy on Karachi harbour during Operation Trident in the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The strike — executed on the night of 3rd and 4th December — inflicted significant damage on enemy naval and fuel infrastructure, showcasing India’s maritime strength and strategic planning. The operation remains a defining milestone in the nation’s naval history.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lt Gen Manjinder Singh congratulated all personnel of the Indian Navy — serving and retired — for their unwavering professionalism and commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders. He praised the Navy for its steadfast role in ensuring India’s security across the vast seas surrounding the subcontinent.
The Army Commander further emphasized the spirit of jointness and close coordination among the Armed Forces within Sapta Shakti Command. He highlighted that seamless teamwork between the Army, Navy and Air Force is crucial for strengthening national defence and responding effectively to security challenges.
The event celebrated the Navy’s operational achievements, wartime contributions and humanitarian efforts, reaffirming its motto of protecting India’s maritime interests in both peace and conflict.
