Greater Noida: India produced a landmark performance at the World Boxing Cup Finals 2025, claiming nine gold medals on a spectacular closing day at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, with Jaismine Lamboria, Nikhat Zareen, Parveen, Minakshi, Preeti, Arundhati Choudhary and Nupur leading a historic medal surge.

Roared on by a packed home crowd, India dominated multiple Olympic-class categories, with women boxers setting the tone in a campaign that saw the country clinch nine gold, six silver, and five bronze medals. All 20 Indian boxers competing at the event finished on the podium.

The afternoon session kicked off India’s gold rush. Minakshi (48kg) opened the tally with a commanding 5:0 win over Asian champion Farzona Fozilova, delivering a sharp and disciplined performance highlighted by a clean left–right combination in the opening round. Preeti (54kg) followed suit, overpowering Italy’s Sirine Charrabi with relentless pressure and crisp scoring punches for another unanimous decision.

Making a strong return after 18 months, Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) secured a dominant 5:0 victory over Uzbekistan’s Aziza Zokirova with precise jabs and tactically controlled exchanges. Nupur (80+kg) edged out Sotimboeva Oltinoy 3:2 in a tense bout, sealing her first World Boxing Cup Finals title through clutch shot selection in the final round.

The evening session delivered India’s biggest highlights. Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) stunned Paris Olympic medallist Wu Shih Yi with a brilliant 4:1 win. Displaying composed footwork, sharp combinations, and calm defence under late pressure, she secured one of India’s standout victories of the tournament.

Reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen (51kg) delivered a masterclass, dismantling Chinese Taipei’s Guo Yi Xuan 5:0 with flawless ring control. Parveen (60kg) added another gold, edging past Japan’s Ayaka Taguchi 3:2 in a gritty, high-tempo contest defined by sharp counters and smooth movement.

Men add two gold medals

India’s men’s contingent also shone, clinching two gold medals. Sachin (60kg) earned a comprehensive 5:0 victory over Kyrgyzstan’s Munarbek uulu Seiitbek, combining accuracy with clever tempo control. Hitesh (70kg) delivered the most dramatic men’s win, overturning an early deficit to defeat Kazakhstan’s Nurbek Mursal 3:2, rallying with strong counterpunches and composure in the final two rounds.

India’s silver medallists included Jadumani Singh (50kg), Pawan Bartwal (55kg), Abhinash Jamwal (65kg), and Ankush Phangal (80kg). Heavyweight Narender Berwal (90+kg) settled for silver after a 5:0 loss to Uzbekistan’s powerful Khalimjon Mamasoliev, while Pooja Rani fought hard but fell to Agata Kaczmarska in the women’s 80kg final.

Global highlights

Outside India’s record-breaking haul, the finals featured strong performances from several international contenders. Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree dominated Italy’s Melissa Gemini in the women’s 75kg final. Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-Chin, an Olympic medallist, claimed the women’s 65kg gold with a clinical 4:1 win.

Uzbekistan impressed with multiple champions, including Asilbek Jalilov (50kg), Samandar Olimov (55kg), Javokhir Abdurakhimov (75kg) and Mamasoliev (90+kg). England celebrated gold for Shittu Oladimeji (80kg) and Isaac Okoh (90kg), while Japan’s Shion Nishiyama captured the men’s 65kg title and Kazakhstan’s Sultanbek Aibaruly topped the 85kg division.
