Chennai: The makers of the Malayalam film Kalamkaval have confirmed that the movie, featuring superstar Mammootty alongside Vinayakan, will release globally on December 5 this year. The new date was announced by Mammootty Kampany, the actor’s production house.

“We know you’ve waited long… The wait will be worth it… #Kalamkaval In Cinemas Worldwide from December 5, 2025. Keep Calm and wait for him…” the company posted on Instagram.

The film was initially scheduled for release on November 27 but was postponed. At the time, the makers reassured fans, stating: “Delayed, NOT Diminished… The Venom Beneath Will Arrive Soon!!”

Kalamkaval has already received a U/A certificate from the Censor Board. Mammootty confirmed the clearance earlier, writing, “#Kalamkaval Censored with U/A 16+ Certificate. In Cinemas Soon.”

The film has been drawing widespread attention since the release of its teaser. The teaser opens with a door knock and a Tamil-speaking character asking, “Who are you?” It then shifts to a police officer questioning another officer — played by Vinayakan — whose identity is concealed. Quick visuals follow, featuring both Vinayakan and Mammootty, the latter appearing as a calm, observant figure surveilling someone.

Promoted with the tagline “The venom beneath”, the thriller marks the seventh production venture of Mammootty Kampany. Earlier, a second-look poster released by the production house teased the mystery around Mammootty’s character with the message: “Some Faces Raise Questions… Not Answers…”

Directed by Jithin K Jose, Kalamkaval is written by Jithin K Jose and Jishnu Sreekumar, with cinematography by Faisal Ali and editing by Praveen Prabhakar. Music is composed by Mujeeb Majeed, and Action Santhosh has choreographed the stunts. The film’s shoot was completed in November last year.

Speculation has been rife that Mammootty may portray a character with shades of grey — though the makers have not confirmed anything. They maintain that the performance will offer audiences a side of the actor never seen before.
