Patna: A day after assuming office as Bihar’s Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary initiated a series of high-level meetings at the state Secretariat, marking the beginning of the new government’s administrative agenda.

Choudhary, who was sworn in as the 24th Chief Minister of Bihar and the first from the Bharatiya Janata Party to hold the post, moved quickly to engage with senior officials. On Thursday morning, he arrived early at the Secretariat and convened a meeting with Principal Secretaries from all departments.

Officials indicated that the meeting is expected to outline key administrative priorities and provide direction for governance in the coming days. The early engagement with top bureaucrats reflects the government’s intent to begin work immediately after taking charge.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary formally assumed charge of the Water Resources Department at Irrigation Bhawan. He reviewed the functioning of the department and received detailed briefings from officials regarding ongoing projects and administrative matters.

Another Deputy Chief Minister, Bijendra Prasad Yadav, is also expected to take charge of his responsibilities shortly. Senior leaders from coalition partners, including those from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (United), have been actively engaging with the Chief Minister following the formation of the new government.

The current administration is operating with a limited cabinet at present. Along with the Chief Minister, both Deputy Chief Ministers are handling multiple departments as part of the interim arrangement.

According to official details, Samrat Choudhary is overseeing 29 departments, including the Home portfolio. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary is managing 10 departments, while Bijendra Prasad Yadav has been assigned charge of eight departments.

A full expansion of the cabinet is expected in the near future, after which departmental responsibilities will be redistributed among ministers. Officials said the expansion will help streamline governance and distribute administrative responsibilities more evenly.

The early round of meetings and departmental reviews indicates a focus on establishing administrative momentum from the outset. The government is expected to take decisions on key policy matters and development initiatives in the coming days.

The transition in leadership marks a new phase in Bihar’s political landscape, following the change from former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to Samrat Choudhary.

Observers note that the initial actions of the new administration suggest an emphasis on coordination between departments and prompt decision-making. The coming weeks are likely to provide further clarity on the government’s policy direction and priorities.

As the administration continues to take shape, further developments are expected regarding cabinet expansion and the implementation of governance measures across sectors.
