Islamabad: Aleema Khan, the sister of former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has filed a contempt of court petition against the Adiala Jail superintendent and other officials for allegedly ignoring a court order that permits Imran Khan to have visitors twice a week, local media reported on Friday.

The petition follows a protest outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, along with several PTI leaders. They held an overnight sit-in after Afridi was denied permission to meet Imran Khan for the eighth consecutive time on Thursday, according to Dawn.

Aleema Khan has named Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, Saddar Beroni Station House Officer Raja Aizaz Azeem, Federal Interior Secretary Capt (retd) Muhammad Khurram Agha and Punjab Home Department Secretary Noorul Amin as respondents in the case.

She referenced the Islamabad High Court’s March 24 ruling, which restored Imran Khan’s twice-weekly visitation schedule. The plea alleges “wilful non-implementation” of the directive and requests contempt proceedings against the authorities for refusing access to Imran Khan’s legal team, family members and associates.

The petition states that Imran Khan and others have been “constrained” to repeatedly approach the high court due to “persistent non-cooperation” by jail authorities and what it calls “ongoing political victimisation.”

Despite clear instructions from the court, the plea claims, jail officials have “repeatedly denied” approved meetings on numerous occasions.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Chief Minister Afridi said PTI was considering its “last option” to secure a meeting with the party founder. He noted that since October 27, Imran Khan’s sisters, lawyers, doctors and senior PTI leadership had been blocked from meeting him.

Meanwhile, Adiala Jail authorities insisted on Wednesday that Imran Khan had not been moved and remains “in good health,” reported The News International. The officials rejected rumours regarding his health and transfer as “baseless,” claiming he continues to receive full medical care.

Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 and is facing several legal cases, including on corruption and terrorism charges following his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in 2022.

PTI continues to demand that the government provide clarity about the former Prime Minister’s condition and whereabouts, as his sisters have recently not been allowed to visit him. Speculation on social media has also fuelled unfounded claims about his health.
